A Christmas Story – Kids Caution – 9

Holiday Movies

A fun Christmas classic for young and old alike.  Written by Jean Sheperd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Sheperd), it’s a tale set in 1940′s Cleveland full of period Americana with a little edge and a lot of fun. Stars Peter Billingsley (Little Ralphy), Darin McGavin (Ralphy’s “Old Man”), and lots of others.

Kid Caution: May have some scary parts for the smallest kids during a “Somewhat Scary Santa at the Mall Scene”, and some other stuff you may or may not want your kids to see, so maybe you want to watch it first and decide if you have little ones.

why only a 9? The violent scenes are not gratuitous. (Every kid probably can relate to the drunk Santa). The bad language isn’t enunciated clearly (most of the time), the gratuitous sex (how about the lamp, “Fra-gi-le, it must be Italian”), is only a lamp. I especially like the last scene (fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra). One of the best holidays movies ever, we never fail to watch it… :)

Oh come on Paster Jerry! You’re right, could be a 10, but some kids didn’t have the life experience of enjoying a drunk Santa like us, and thus the “Kids Caution” warning. Where can I get one of Fra-gi-le “i” talian Lamps, or at least the fishnet stockings. Glad you love this movie too, check out “Scrooge” if you get a chance.

Any holiday movie suggestions? Would love to have your opinion. Happy Thanksgiving.

Well, two films we always love to watch at Christmas Time are “A Christmas Carol” with George C. Scott (originally a TV movie), and “It’s a Wonderful Life”. I just love the stories and subtext behind these two classic tales.

  4. Murray Reynolds Says:

Never seen the George C. Scott TV version and will try to get it and watch it this Christmas. I agree and I plan to add “It’s a Wonderful Life” to my Christmas Favorites list, as well as “Holiday Inn” as soon as I get a chance. BTW, loved your Christmas guitar piece on YouTube, could you please post the link here as I can’t seem to find it, and would like to share it with everybody?

Just watched Charlie Brown Christmas and “White Christmas” tonight. Always a holiday treat and a little more palpable than Holiday Inn. Here’s the link to my guitar pickin’
